Small, consistent steps add to big things. Personally, we like to follow the 1% rule to progress our personal and professional goals: if you can get 1 percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done 💪🏽 (alternatively, if you get 1 percent worse each day for one year, you’ll decline nearly down to zero 😮) On the days that you can't give 100%, or even 10% just remember that 1% daily will make all the difference 💜 Artwork via: @khiascanvas #1percentclub #smallsteps #wisewordsoftheday #weeklynewsletter #glowreel

Katie Doan MSc ACC was interested in health and wellness from a young age. And she always knew she wanted to help others. She started her career as a Physiotherapist, before pivoting into leading large scale complex collaborative projects in health organisations in Melbourne and in London. In 2021, Katie took the leap and established her own business: Next Step Coach. Through Next Step Coach, Katie is helping people, and especially women and women of colour to lead fulfilling working lives. Recently, Katie collaborated with Glowreel to lead a vision boarding workshop - supporting attendees to visualise what their ideal life looks like professionally and personally (yes, it was awesome!) Glowreel caught up with Katie to hear more about her journey behind building Next Step Coach, why she decided to start her own business and exactly how vision boarding works. Executive Coach | Leadership Coach | Career Coach | Facilitator | Consultant | DEI Mentor| I help individuals and organisations to find more joy at work

Dare to dream I recently spent time with the incredible folks at EY to facilitate a very special event: Vision Board your Future. We had around 100 people take time out of their busy day to pause and take stock of what they really want their lives to look like, personally and professionally. The following are some questions to try at home: 1. What would you do if money was no object? 2. What would you do if you knew no one would judge you? 3. What would you want your loved ones to say at your next milestone birthday speech? Find an image (concrete is ok, metaphorical is best) that represents this and take a photo on your phone. Then take the first step to living that life today. Thank you to Shilpa Bhim from media start up Glowreel for presenting this event and Elisa Zulkefli, Sherine Abraham and Nicole Tjahja from the EY gender events team for hosting. Special thanks to Melissa Tan our double agent - for making this possible. Thank you all for everything that you do to elevate the status of women in the workplace. #careerstrategy #vision2023

Last night, Glowreel had the pleasure of attending Asian Leadership Project's ‘In Conversation’ Series, hosted by Julie Chai, featuring Catherine Fox AM & Vivienne Nguyen AM. The series focuses on leadership, culture and the bamboo ceiling. Some key points that we took away from last night: 1) Data sets are important. We know that companies set a target on revenue and profit because they think that is important. If a company values cultural diversity, why can’t they set a target and benchmark themselves against that? 2) People don’t want to set targets as they don’t want to admit that they have inherent biases. 3) Cultivating a diverse network is important as it allows you to gather different opinions and ways of working. 4) A good ally doesn’t just kick the door open, they keep the door open so that something substantial actually results from that connection / opportunity. Progress is happening but it’s not happening fast enough in Australia, especially for women of colour. It can be disheartening at times to hear that progress isn’t where you want it to be. We get it! If you want to find out how other women of colour blaze their own trail, subscribe to Glowreel’s free weekly newsletter at www.glowreel.co! You’ll get to find out how other trailblazing WOC bypass society’s expectations and pave their own path.
